who watches the
watchmen?
Our story begins with the untimely, though unmourned, death of The Comedian (Edward Blake). And who should find his blood-stained pin (the iconic smiley face)? None other than Rorschach (Walter Joseph Kovac). A reckless vigilante, now confronted with a death of one of his own masked acquaintances. He investigates, coming to the conclusion that The Comedian was murdered.
He wants answers. And he intends on getting them.
Rorschach being the only masked hero left fighting of The Watchmen gang, he goes to talk to his old partner, Nite Owl (Daniel Dreiberg) about The Comedian's death. Nite Owl tries to talk Rorschach out of following through with the investigation, insisting that The Comedian had enemies in many places. But Rorschach has taken the death of a masked hero personally - as an attack on them all. And he will not rest until he has found the murderer.
After failing to recruit Nite Owl, Rorschach goes to see Doctor Manhattan (Jon Osterman) and Silk Spectre (Laurie Juspeczyk) looking for answers. Unfortunately for him, they seem as unphased by The Comedian's death as the rest of the world. And after a somewhat heated debate between them, Doctor Manhattan escorts him out.
Shortly after, Rorschach finds himself framed for the murder of Moloch, a retired super-villain, and tossed in prison. Feeling neglected in her relationship with Doctor Manhattan, Silk Spectre turns to Nite Owl, and they form a romantic relationship. They tackle the town together to clean up the streets, and eventually decide to bust Rorschach out of prison. Doctor Manhattan, having his only connection to Earth severed, relocates to Mars.
Succeeding in Rorschach's break out, they realize that there may be more to The Comedian's death than they thought. And with the doomsday clock getting closer to midnight, they need answers - and fast. They figure the smartest man in the world can help them, and they go to give him a visit. But when they reach the empty office of Ozymandias (Adrian Veidt), the answers they get only raise more horrifying questions.
On the hunt for Ozymandias, Rorschach and Nite Owl track him down while Silk Spectre speaks with Doctor Manhattan in a plea for help. The men find Oyzmandias, and are lectured on the reasons behind his plans of mass destruction. He goes on to say that in order to create world peace, a common enemy must be presented - who he frames as Doctor Manhattan.
Silk Spectre convinces Doctor Manhattan to return to Earth, after rekindling their past love. They return during the layout of Oyzmandias' plan, only to have Doctor Manhattan agree with him!
The doomsday clock reaches midnight.
With Oyzmandias already having pressed the big red button, they are helpless as they watch bombs go off around the world, killing millions of innocent people. The energy readings from the attacks are read as Doctor Manhattan's and the world teams together to defend against their new "common enemy", thus creating world peace (at least on a world government standpoint).

"By exposing me, you would sacrifice the peace so many died for today."
